Anecdotal evidence suggests CBD may help users to manage their pain. CBD can be absorbed into the skin via topical application, using a cream or a balm but does it really help to tackle pain? Below details some of the research around CBD and pain, so you can make an informed decision about whether it is right for you.
P1 Cannabinoids regulate the tissue response to excessive inflammation
A 2010 review identified the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD. Note that this study specifically looking at inflammation in the colon and identified it as a promising therapeutic tool.
P2 Transdermal cannabidiol reduces inflammation and pain-related behaviours
This 2015 study concludes that topical CBD application had therapeutic potential for relief of arthritis pain-related behaviours and inflammation.
P3 Cannabinoids and Pain
This 2018 review noted that current research supports the use of cannabinoids in the treatment of chronic pain in adults. The authors note that CBD is tolerated well and relatively safe when used long-term.
