You can buy CBD in Ireland in three places: from a specialist online, from health-food and hemp shops in the bigger towns, and, in a small way, from some pharmacies. All three are legal routes provided the product itself is: CBD is not a controlled drug here, but any THC in a finished product makes it one, so what you are buying matters far more than where. We are an Irish-registered company without shops of our own, so this guide is honest about the trade-offs of each route and tells you exactly what to check before you hand over money, whether that is on Capel Street or at a checkout page.
We cover the three ways to buy, the checklist that applies wherever you buy, what the picture looks like in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford, the products you cannot legally buy in Ireland however they are labelled, how online ordering and delivery work from our side, and the questions we are asked most. Our range is made at our laboratory in York Science Park from hemp grown on our own EU farm and dispatched from our fulfilment centre in Ireland by DPD, so the delivery facts here are our own.

Three ways to buy CBD in Ireland
| Where | What you get | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Specialist online shop (Irish or EU/UK brand shipping to Ireland) | The full range and every strength; lab reports on the site; prices without a shop’s mark-up; delivery in 1 to 3 working days | Make sure the seller is actually set up for Ireland: euro pricing, an Irish delivery partner, an Irish company address, and products made for the Irish market (THC-free) |
| Health-food and hemp shops (Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford) | Advice in person, the product in your hand today, a handful of brands | Imported full-spectrum oils with “trace THC” are common on shelves; ask to see the lab report, not the leaflet |
| Pharmacies and larger retailers | A small, cautious range, usually low strengths at a premium | Limited choice; staff may not be able to tell you how the product was tested |
There is no wrong route. A good hemp shop with a knowledgeable owner is a genuine asset, and if you want to start today, it is the way to start. The online route wins on choice, price per milligram and traceability, which is why most repeat buyers end up there. Whichever you choose, the next section is the part that matters.
The checklist that applies wherever you buy
- A lab report you can read, showing THC not detected. Irish law has no trace allowance for THC in finished products, a point the High Court and Court of Appeal confirmed in 2024 and 2025. Isolate and THC-removed broad-spectrum products pass; “full-spectrum” products with 0.2% THC on the label do not, whatever the country they were made in. Our guide to whether CBD is legal in Ireland covers the rulings.
- CBD content stated in milligrams, per bottle and per serving. “Hemp oil” with no milligram figure is hemp seed oil, a food oil with no CBD, as our guide to hemp oil versus CBD oil explains.
- A batch number and best-before date that match the report.
- No medical claims. CBD is sold in Ireland as a food supplement. A seller who tells you it treats anxiety, pain or insomnia is either uninformed or ignoring the rules, and the product may be too.
- A named company you can find. Registered name, address and a way to contact a person. For an online shop, an Irish or EU delivery partner and euro pricing.
- Sensible strengths. A first bottle should be 500mg or 1000mg, not the strongest on the shelf. Our CBD dosage guide explains how to start.
Buying CBD in Dublin
Dublin has more places selling CBD than anywhere else in Ireland: a cluster of hemp shops around the north inner city, health-food chains in the shopping centres, and independent pharmacies that stock a line or two. If you want advice face to face, the city has it. The three things to know before you go in:
- “Hemp shop” covers a wide range. Some are serious CBD specialists; some lean towards cannabis culture and stock HHC products, “CBD flower” and imported full-spectrum oils, none of which are legal to sell in Ireland. The lab report test above sorts one from the other in a minute.
- Prices in the city centre carry a shop’s overheads. The same strength of oil from a specialist online is usually cheaper per milligram, and the range is wider.
- Delivery to Dublin is quick. Our orders are dispatched the same day when placed before 1pm Monday to Friday, by DPD, and arrive in 1 to 3 working days anywhere in the Republic.
Searches for “cbd Dublin” also pick up CBD vape shops and gummies. Both are legal when THC-free; our CBD vape and CBD gummies ranges are made to that standard, and our guide to CBD edibles in Ireland covers gummies, chocolate and tea.
Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and everywhere else
Outside Dublin the picture is thinner: each city has a few health-food shops and a hemp shop or two, and smaller towns usually have none. That is where online buying earns its place, because DPD delivers to a rural Eircode in the same 1 to 3 working days as a city one, and free on orders over €50.
| City | What you will typically find locally | From us |
|---|---|---|
| Cork | Health-food shops and one or two hemp shops; pharmacies with a small range | DPD, 1 to 3 working days |
| Galway | A hemp shop and health-food stores; vape shops selling CBD e-liquids | DPD, 1 to 3 working days |
| Limerick | Health-food chains; limited specialist choice | DPD, 1 to 3 working days |
| Waterford | A well-known hemp shop plus health-food stores | DPD, 1 to 3 working days |
| Towns and rural Ireland | Often nothing beyond a pharmacy | DPD, 1 to 3 working days, free over €50 |
The checklist does not change by county. A product that would fail it in Dublin fails it in Cork.
What you cannot legally buy in Ireland, whatever the label says
- Anything with THC in it. Full-spectrum oils, gummies or vapes advertising “less than 0.2% THC” are controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Acts; the 0.2% figure is a hemp farming limit, not a product allowance.
- “CBD flower” or hemp buds. The Acts control every part of the cannabis plant except the seeds and mature stalk, so dried flower is controlled regardless of its THC content. Searches for “cbd flower Dublin” lead somewhere you do not want to go.
- HHC and other synthetic or semi-synthetic cannabinoids sold as legal highs. These are intoxicating, unregulated and nothing to do with CBD.
- Products that claim to treat a condition. Only a medicine authorised by the Health Products Regulatory Authority can do that, and no CBD oil sold in a shop is one.
Products that are legal and widely sold: THC-free CBD oils, capsules, gummies, teas and vapes as food supplements, and CBD creams and balms as cosmetics.
Buying online: delivery, payment and returns
From our side, buying online works like this. Orders on hempwell.ie are priced in euro and dispatched from our fulfilment centre in Ireland; orders placed before 1pm Monday to Friday leave the same day. DPD Ireland delivers in 1 to 3 working days with tracking; standard delivery is €4.99 and free on orders over €50. Payment is by card through a secure checkout, and a subscription takes 20% off repeat orders. If a parcel goes astray, we raise the claim with the courier. Our delivery page has the detail, and our returns policy covers the rest.
What to expect in the box: the product with its batch number and best-before date, a graduated pipette with oils, and the lab report available on our lab reports page by batch. Not sure which product to start with? Our explainer on CBD and our guide to choosing a strength are the two to read first, and our customer care team answers questions by email and phone.
Northern Ireland and the UK
If you are in Northern Ireland or Great Britain, the UK rules apply instead, which differ on THC (the UK works to a per-container limit rather than zero) and on the regulator. We can deliver there from hempwell.ie, but our UK site, hempwell.co.uk, prices in sterling and ships from our laboratory, so it is usually the better option. Buyers in the Republic ordering from UK retailers should check the product is THC-free: a product legal in Belfast is not automatically legal in Dundalk.

Is it legal to buy CBD online in Ireland?
Yes. CBD is not a controlled drug, and buying a THC-free CBD food supplement online is legal. The product must contain no THC; check the lab report before you order.
Can I buy CBD oil in a pharmacy in Ireland?
Some pharmacies stock a small range of low-strength CBD oils and capsules. Choice is limited and prices are higher than online, but the route is legitimate; apply the same checklist.
Where can I buy CBD in Dublin?
Hemp shops in the north inner city, health-food chains in the shopping centres and some pharmacies. Ask for the lab report showing THC not detected; shops that sell “CBD flower” or HHC are a sign to walk on. Online, DPD delivers to Dublin addresses in 1 to 3 working days.
How long does CBD delivery take in Ireland?
From us, 1 to 3 working days by DPD to any address in the Republic, dispatched the same day for orders before 1pm Monday to Friday. Standard delivery is €4.99 and free over €50.
Can I buy CBD flower in Ireland?
No. Dried hemp flower is controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Acts regardless of its THC content, because the Acts cover every part of the plant except the seed and mature stalk. Shops that sell it are selling a controlled drug.
