Taking CBD oil is straightforward, but getting the dose, method, and timing right makes a big difference. Here’s a what to do: (and remember Start low and go slow—especially if you’re new to CBD).
- Use the Graduated Pipette to Measure Your Dose: Our pipettes are marked with graduations (e.g., 0.2 mL, 0.4 mL, 0.6mL, 0.8ml and 1 mL). Check the label to see how much CBD (in mg) is in each mL that you are taking.
- Place It Under Your Tongue (Sublingual Method): Squeeze the oil under your tongue. Hold it there for 30–60 seconds without swallowing, this helps the CBD absorb quickly into your bloodstream.
- Swallow the Remaining Oil: After holding it, swallow any leftover oil.
Take With Food for Better Absorption: CBD is fat-soluble, so taking it with a fat-containing meal or snack increases absorption. This can increase bioavailability and make the effects stronger and longer lasting.
Take at the same time daily if using it as part of a regular health support routine (e.g., for anxiety, pain, inflammation, or sleep). Give it time to work!
Not sure which dosage to take? Try our Dosage Guide!
All HempWell pure and broad spectrum CBD oils come with a graduated pipette (or “dropper”). This allows users to accurately control CBD dosage. You’ll also find the “mg per ml” described on the bottle, so you know exactly how much oil to use. If you’re not sure what dose to take, then this dosage guide might come in handy.
Other ways to take CBD Oil
The great thing about CBD oil is that it is so versatile. It’s super easy to incorporate the goodness of CBD into your everyday life without having to change your whole routine! Why not try adding your measured dose of CBD oil to your morning orange juice or cup of tea.
Pure CBD oils are virtually tasteless (unless you choose to purchase a flavoured oil) so they can easily be added to protein shakes or hot beverages. Adding CBD oil to your existing routine is a great way to boost your cannabinoid levels without any fuss whatsoever! Pure CBD oils are often called “isolate” oils, as they contain pure crystalline CBD isolate.
For those that really enjoy the taste of hemp (which is often described as an earthy, nutty tone) broad spectrum CBD oils are a great natural source of cannabinoids. Broad spectrum CBD also contains a range of other cannabinoids.
HempWell oils are created from CBD distillate which is extracted from plants grown on our farm in the EU. If you’re still unclear on the difference between pure isolate and broad spectrum CBD oil, we have resources to support you. You can also use the chat box at the bottom of the screen to speak with us if you have any questions.
What strength of CBD Oil should I take?
That depends on a variety of factors, for example your body weight. If you’re taking CBD for pain you may wish to use a stronger oil for a higher dose. A good starting point is with a 1500mg CBD oil. A full pipette would contain 50mg CBD. From there you could increase or decrease your dosage to suit your needs. For a deeper look at matching bottle strength to how much you take — including when the 2000–4000mg high-strength oils make sense — see our guide to choosing the right strength of CBD oil.
There are also multiple flavours of CBD oil available. For broad spectrum CBD oils this can help to mask the hempy taste (which can be unpleasant for some!) while for the relatively tasteless pure CBD oils this serves as an added bonus.
